The 2024 Alex Mooney Memorial Scholarship is Awarded!
Lexington, Kentucky: The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT) is proud to announce that Camryn Nicholson of Eugene, Oregon, and Caprice Tondalo of North Haven, Connecticut, have been awarded a 2024 Alex Mooney Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to you both!
Alex Mooney had a love for Morgan horses and her Morgan community that was legendary. She fought a courageous battle against Cystic Fibrosis never losing her beautiful smile or uttering a complaint. She was taken from us far too soon in 2019. This scholarship was created in her memory by The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show®, friends and family – all admirers of this courageous, passionate, determined, dedicated young woman. The scholarship is open to those who wish to further their undergraduate studies or to advance their professional development with activities associated with Cystic Fibrosis.
Camryn "Cami" Nicholson is a third generation Morgan gal. Following in the footsteps of her Mom, Nonna and Papa, she began her personal journey with Morgans about four years ago - in the heart of the pandemic. Cami contributes her return to health and vitality to her Morgans and said, “being a part of the Morgan community and horse community in general, has brought me the most happiness.” Cami and her mare, Amberfields Flame (aka Flame, her heart horse) will head off to Oregon State University in the fall to pursue her degree with a major in Early Education and a minor in Equine Sciences while continuing to grow her equestrian knowledge and skills. Caprice Tondalo began riding at eight years old on a retired show Morgan. Since 2011, she has been an active member in our Morgan horse community, owning and showing Morgans, volunteering with local organizations, being a delegate on the AMHA Youth Council, and more. She worked her way up through the divisions of the AMHA Youth of the Year Contest to become the 2023 Reserve Champion. Currently, Caprice is working as a Marketing Intern through AMHA, creating promotional YouTube videos. She is studying Advertising & Integrated Communications at Quinnipiac University with an anticipated graduation date of May 2025. (Caprice and Willow Hill Pollyanna - Photo by Andy Iles) |
