AMHA Members At The 2023 WDAA World Championship Show
[Lexington, KY] - The Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) World Championship Show, which took place in late September in Guthrie, Oklahoma, was yet another phenomenal showcase of equestrian talent. The event welcomed around 250 horses, showcasing 54 breeds from 39 states and two Canadian provinces. Over the course of five days, nearly 1,200 rides were completed with an audience of 1,000 attendees there to watch the best of the best in action.
Recognized as a historically rich breed, the Morgan horse is known for its versatility and grace in many disciplines. At the 2023 WDAA World Championship Show, the Morgan horse once again proved its adaptability, with several American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) members achieving great success with their registered Morgans.
Josephine Trott, accompanied by her partner – HD Redford GCH – competed in both the Level 5 Amateaur and Open dvisions. Their excellent performance led to champion honors in the Amateur division awards and reserve champion honors in the Open division awards. Following their strong performances, Josephine and HD Redford GCH were recognized in the 2023 Breed High Score Awards.
In the Level 2 and 3 Open divisions, Gia Long and her horse – Misty Green Cimmaron GCH – also secured a spot among the champions. Gia and her Morgan received the champion title in the Level 2 Open division awards and took third place in the Level 3 Open division awards.
Julie Haugen and her teammate – Trickling Stream Trigger (CN) – took home two admirable honors in the Level 3 Open division. Starting off her show success, Julie was awarded the champion title in the Level 3 Open division after an exceptional performance. Overall, she and her horse were named reserve champions in the Open division after taking into account the high point winners from all basic levels.
Piloting two horses – Equinox Courage Underfire GCH and Trickling Stream Trigger – Kehan Cox worked hard to achieve multiple high honors. Aboard Equinox Courage Underfire GCH, Kehan competed in the junior division at both the Level 1 and 2 where he received the reserved champion title in the Level 1 and the champion title in the Level 2. To round out his already impressive honors, Kehan was presented with the Lynn Palm Future Star Award – an award given to the highest-scoring Junior rider.
Kehan was not the only one in his family to compete in the WDAA World Championship Show. His brothers – Declan and Ronan Cox – also competed in the introductory levels as Junior riders, receiving excellent scores.
The American Morgan Horse Association would like to extend its congratulations to all riders for their notable performances at this year’s WDAA World Championship Show. Their accomplishments epitomize the commitment and talent of all AMHA members.
