In Memory: Dr. M. Frederick "Fred" Dills, Jr.
Dr. Miles “Fred” Frederick Dills Jr. passed away at home on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
He was born in Brookville on February 13, 1944. He was the son of Dr. Miles Frederick Dills Sr. and Rebecca Irene (Bish) Dills.
Fred graduated from Indiana High School in 1962. He studied at Washington & Jefferson College before pursuing his Doctor of Dental Surgery at West Virginia University. After graduating from WVU in 1968, he established his dental practice in Indiana, where he was happy to be joined by his son in 1993. Fred retired from practice after 44 years of serving his patients. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association and Indiana Dental Society. Fred was an advisor of Kappa Sig at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a proud chairman of the Grand National Morgan Horse Show in 2004 and 2010. He was an elder and an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Indiana.
Fred was a devoted grandfather that took pride in teaching his grandchildren about the outdoors and how to ski. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, skier and outdoorsman. While he shared his wife’s love of horses and could ride and drive, he enjoyed exploring the countryside on his Harley with his son, grandson, brother and friends. Fred also found peace standing on the side of a stream perfecting his fly cast in places like Kodiak Island, Alaska, and on the Madison River in Montana, or watching the skiers navigating the slopes from his house in Ellicottville, New York.
Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia (Holt) Dills; a brother, DeWayne Dills and wife Margaret; children: Dr. Scott Dills, and Tricia Naylor and husband Tim; and grandchildren: Miles Dills and wife Kristina, Bailey Dills, Laken Dills and Tess Naylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Fred’s wishes, there was no visitation. A memorial service and reception was held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Calvary Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David J. Hanna officiating. Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
