Promoting the Morgan in Iowa
(Opal and Friend)
“Morgans, Our Unicorns” was the theme of this year’s presentation by the Iowa Morgan Horse Association at the Iowa Horse Fair. The promotional event was held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on March 24-26, 2023. This theme offered many colorful decorating opportunities for both the stall area and the horses, including rainbows, unicorns, and sparkles...a child’s fantasy come to life.
Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon demonstrations put the Morgans front and center, exhibiting both English and Western disciplines. AND, the Morgan stallion, Smokey Joe, pulled a log as the early Morgans did! “Photo Ops with Opal” was a huge hit, especially with the children. The patient, “sparkly” mare was so popular that folks in the audience called her name during the Sunday performance. Then, two of the Morgans competed in a “Battle of the Breeds.” The first part of the competition was barrel racing, then a jumping course, a costume contest, and more. Thank you all for sharing the Morgan’s beauty and versatility, and for enduring the cold, snowy weather conditions. You all are the best!
AMHA is proud to provide its Breed Promotion Grant Program to assist with fine promotions like this and congratulates the members of the Iowa Morgan Horse Association on their excellent presentation!
