In Memory - Yvonne Sekyra

From the NW Morgan News, May 1, 2022, Early Edition, AMHA is saddened to hear that...

Yvonne Sekyra has left the northwest arena, leaving sad family, clients, friends, and her Morgan family. News was received that Yvonne died on Friday, April 29, 2022 (Buckley, Washington).  This note was posted by her daughter on Saturday:

“Today we are deeply saddened.  Yesterday my mother, Yvonne Sekyra,  passed suddenly while at the barn doing what she loved. Thank you to everyone that was there to help and support us. Please pray for us as we grieve the loss of a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend. I am truly humbled by the support we have recieved and thankful for my Northwood Farm Family and all of you who reached out.  We are truly blessed for your friendship."

Yvonne was raised on a farm in Canada, She grew up raising, training and showing Saddlebreds and Hackney horses. This later evolved into a lifelong career training Morgan horses. Yvonne moved to Washington State in the late 1980s and built her farm, Northwood, in Buckley, Washington.  She also built a strong and respected reputation.  Yvonne had many long-term clients.

Yvonne was an avid campaigner for the Morgan breed. She participated in everything from Breyer horse exhibitions to the Seattle Pancho Auction, as well as the prestigious Spruce Meadows Masters exhibition. She also exhibited in mall shows at the West Edmonton Mall (one of the largest malls in the world) to promote saddle seat breeds. Yvonne especially prided herself on introducing non-Morgan horse owners to the breed.

The riders and horses she taught and/or trained won countless championships at local, regional and world level shows. Yvonne specialized in providing instruction to amateur and junior exhibitor competitors and their equine partners.

Yvonne will be missed very much – especially at the upcoming Key Classic Show.   We give our love and support to her family, clients and friends.  Erin Baker wrote today: “I’m really glad we're all such a tight-knit group up there. [Northwood Farm] Sally and I went up yesterday and nearly every client (past and current) was out at the barn helping Tracy and swapping stories."
