In Memory - Jon A. Curtis
TICONDEROGA | Jon A. Curtis passed away suddenly at his home in Ticonderoga on Oct. 27, 2020, at age 80.
Jon was born in Ticonderoga, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Barber Curtis.
Jon graduated from Ticonderoga High School with honors in history, and he was also an Eagle Scout. He attended SUNY College of Forestry and the University of Maine, graduating with a degree in chemical engineering. He went on to a long engineering career with Tambrands-Procter and Gamble, managing engineering projects all over the world. One of his most memorable trips was when he was sent alone to negotiate with the Russian and Ukrainian governments to locate the first American manufacturing plants there. He was guest of honor at the National Opera House in Kiev and the Russian Horse Circus in Moscow. He toured the length of European Russia and the Caucasus on his trip, with exciting encounters with the KGB.
Upon retirement, Jon came home full-time to the family farm on the hill, becoming an expert at handling Morgan horses and donkeys and restoring vintage tractors and farm equipment. He also had an extensive genealogy project, writing several volumes on his family tree and the old families of Ticonderoga.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Jon is survived by his wife, Joanne; his daughter, Lenore Curtis; and his sister, June Curtis, all of Ticonderoga; and by his favorite cousin, Ronald Rice of Gloversville, New York.
There will be no services. If they wish to, friends can donate to the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad in his memory.
