AMHECT Receives UPHA Learning Center Grant
The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT) is excited to announce the receipt of a grant from the United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA) that will cover all expenses of the 2020 AMHECT/UPHA Open Learning Gate Center offered right now during the Grand National & World Championship Horse Show® being held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Oct. 10 through the 17th.
The purpose of the Learning Center is to provide academic support to young riders, currently enrolled in grades 5 – 12, who are away from their local schools. Participants can stay abreast of their academic requirements by providing a structured learning environment. The center is supervised by a professional teacher who can provide academic support for students and the center works with teachers from the student’s school to help guide activities while away from school and to monitor tests, if needed. Assignments can be posted, faxed, or e-mailed to the center to meet deadlines.
This year, there is limited seating and no more than 8 students will be allowed in the center at any one time to follow proper CDC social distancing guidelines. The center will be disinfected regularly, and all are required to wear masks while in the center. There will be no shared supplies and students will need to bring any materials required to complete their assignments including laptops and calculators when applicable. Students MUST make an appointment PRIOR to their use of the center to ensure a maximum of 8 students at any one time.
It is not too late if you are in Oklahoma and had not yet signed up to utilize the learning center. Stop by during center hours (9 AM to 5 PM Central Time) to speak to the Center Coordinator, Deborah Murphy.
Due to the generous grant of the United Professional Horsemen’s Association, the Center is available to properly enrolled students at NO CHARGE. Anyone that previously submitted an application fee by credit card will see a complete refund on their statement dated Oct. 8, 2020. Thank you to UPHA for this opportunity for our young equestrians!
