Registry Rule Change to take effect June 1, 2020
During the April meeting of the Registry Committee, members voted to revert Rule 3.H.3 regarding changing a registered Morgan’s name back to its original wording prior to May 2014.
The current rule only requires permission from the owner of the dam at the time of foaling if the name begins with a registered prefix. Effective June 1, 2020, all Horse Name Change Requests will require the signature(s) of the owner(s) of the dam at the time of foaling. All other aspects of Rule 3 will remain in place.
Current Rule
Rule 3H3. A horse's name may be changed once during its lifetime by the recorded owner if
- The horse has no registered progeny.
- The horse has not appeared on an AMHA Stallion Service Report or any other AMHA breeding record.
- If the horse’s name includes a registered prefix, written permission from the owner(s) or authorized agent(s) of the prefix is required.
- Requested names must meet all other requirements of Rule 3.
