AMHECT Awards 2020 Memorial Grants

December 18, 2019

The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT) is pleased to award four recipients with 2020 memorial grants in loving memory of Harry Sebring and Elberta Honstein.

The selection committee received numerous applications and was, once again, presented with a daunting challenge. The Morgan breed is very fortunate to have so many young adults and youth members pursuing such a variety of programs and providing such extensive submissions for consideration.

This year, two grants were issued in memory of Harry Sebring. Harry Sebring was a renowned Morgan horse trainer who also served as President of the AMHA. His family created this grant in his memory since he always wanted to see young adults excel personally and professionally.

Clea Cloutier (Derry, NH) will be participating in the Form is Function Clinic to advance her riding and training knowledge.

Caleb Noble (Rowley, MA) will use his funding to complete his farrier schooling at The Casey and Son Horseshoeing School.

Two grants were issued in memory of Elberta Honstein, who had a rich and long history with the Morgan breed. In the 1960s, along with her husband Roy, the Honsteins founded Roy-El Farm. They passed their love of the Morgan breed on to their daughter, Debbie, and later to Debbie’s daughters, Elberta Seybold and Erlene Seybold-Smythe.

Annabeth Allen (Bixby, OK) will be furthering her riding skills with continuing lessons.

Airianna Rich (Baraboo, WI) will pursue lessons in the discipline of Western Dressage.

AMHECT would like to congratulate the 2020 grant recipients as well as the other applicants on their pursuit of further education and training. A special thank you is extended to the numerous people who donated to these memorial grant funds in memory of two VERY special people. The next grant period will open on September 14, 2020 and close on October 30, 2020. All qualified members are encouraged to apply for the 2021 grants.
