In Memory: Robert Fraunfelder

Robert “Bob” Fraunfelder, 90, loving husband and father of three, passed away peacefully September 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 6, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Lina (nee Roth) and Walter Fraunfelder. He was raised in Chippewa Lake, Ohio, moving to Oberlin 66 years ago.

Bob served in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.

Family and his faith were the most important things in his life. He met and married the love of his life, Patricia (nee Kaiser) 66 years ago. They enjoyed traveling together throughout the country. He was an avid gardener, growing prize tomatoes and beautiful flowers. He owned Hi-De Builders Construction Company and used that passion to design and build a home for each of his daughters. Bob was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Morgan Horses were a significant part of Bob’s life. He owned and operated Hi-De Morgan Horse farm, traveling throughout the country proudly watching his children and grandchildren show horses. He served for many years as president of the Ohio Morgan Horse Association and for more than ten years managed the Silver Possibility for the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. In 1996 he was named the American Morgan Horse Association Man of the Year. Bob was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oberlin where he served in many different roles and was instrumental in the construction of the new church building.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Kaiser); daughters, Robin Jones (Ken), Debbie Burt (Mike), and Heidi Scholl (Scott); grandchildren, Michelle, Brian, Eric, Erin, Caitlyn and Miranda; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (nee Fraunfelder) Lassond and a brother, Don Fraunfelder. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Fraunfelder.

Military Honors will be presented Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at the Grace Lutheran Church in Oberlin.

Special thanks and appreciation to all the staff at Welcome Nursing Home and New Life Hospice for their kindness and loving care during the last 18 months of Bob’s life.
