OKC Fairgrounds Needs a New Coliseum
Via the OKC Fairgrounds
The Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma City (OKC) Fairgrounds, also called “The Big House,” has served Oklahoma City for more than 50 years. It has provided lifelong memories for high school athletes from across the state and helped make OKC the "Horse Show Capital of the World." Unfortunately, the building is rapidly approaching the end of its useful life. It’s time to build a modern facility where teams earn championships, nonprofits host community events and graduates celebrate for generations to come.
The Oklahoma City Council recently heard the Fairgrounds' presentation about this critical need and the benefits of a new coliseum for citizens. Replacing the facility with a state-of-the-art coliseum will generate $230 million a year in direct spending and $400 million a year in total economic impact. Those are dollars going to local restaurants, hotels and other businesses.
The OKC Fairgrounds draws 2.15 million visitors a year, and more than half are Oklahoma City neighbors. While "The Big House" draws tourists and their dollars, it also serves as an important gathering place for the community.
Using MAPS4 to invest in a new coliseum at the OKC Fairgrounds is critical. This video presents the bold vision for the future.
If you live in Oklahoma, please call or email your City Council representative to say you support including a new “Big House” in MAPS4.
If you don’t live in Oklahoma City, you can still share your thoughts regarding a new coliseum with Mayor David Holt at https://www.okc.gov/government/mayor/. Thank you for showing your support.
