Job Position at UVM Morgan Horse Farm
The University of Vermont (UVM) Morgan Horse Farm located in Weybridge, Vermont, is seeking qualified applicants for an Equine and Academic Coordinator position.
The Equine and Academic Coordinator, under the direction of the Chair for ASCI and Farm Manager, will coordinate, develop, and oversee the Equine Management Apprenticeship and Internship program. Responsibilities include leading and overseeing student experience and education to include daily scheduled horse training activities, maintaining herd health records, preparing horses for breeding and presentation, and managing the stable, as well as performing site tours and responding to inquiries about the farm. The selected candidate will also provide functional supervision for the farm’s temporary employees and administrative supervision when the farm manager is away from the farm, as well as act on behalf of farm manager when the farm manager is not on the farm. Additional responsibilities include providing programmatic coordination and delivery of specialized academic support services (e.g., 4-H programs), and coordinating educational opportunities within the University of Vermont.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work with large animals in a farm environment and be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and must be able to operate farm machinery. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a physical screening and background check. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Animal Sciences or related field with at least three years of experience in large equine facility operations (> 25 breeding horses), preferably in an academic setting; or an advanced degree with at least one year of similar relevant experience is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of equine herd management and training in an academic environment. Valid driver’s license (subject to driver’s record check) or the ability to obtain one is required.
This full-time, 12-month position includes regularly scheduled non-standard work hours. University housing on the farm premises in Weybridge, Vermont, is provided and is a requirement with this position.
