AMHA’s longstanding policy regarding multiple owners, as noted on the Transfer Application, has been: Unless otherwise requested, ownership of horses with multiple owners will be Joint Tenants with Rights of Survivorship.

During the recent AMHA Registry Committee and Board of Directors meetings, this was formalized by the addition of Rule 5-D to the AMHA Registry Rules & Regulations.

RULE 5 - CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION

A. The original Registration Certificate will be issued in the name of the person who was the recorded owner or recorded lessee of the dam at the time of foaling or in the name of the person designated by the recorded owner or the recorded lessee pursuant to Rule 2, Section 1-B, Paragraph B, or Rule 2 Section 1-D, Paragraph B or in the name of the last party listed on the ownership record on the Application for Frozen Embryo/Oocyte Transfer. (See Rule 2 Sections 1-C and 1-E).

B. A Registration Certificate is a certification of information contained in the records of the Registry.

C. The Registry will issue registration numbers in consecutive order, based on the order in which the applications are processed by the Registry.

D. Unless otherwise requested by the owners of a horse, any horse registered with the Registry that is owned by more than one owner shall be classified as being owned by Joint Tenants with Right of Survivorship.
