WOODGATE WINSOME Ray Gifford was an astute breeder of Morgan horses who prided himself on combining type, athletic ability, and beauty in his horses; his New England roots were always evident in his breeding decisions. Crossing a son of Funquest Falcon with Funquest Bengaret, one of the loveliest of that program’s mares was just the ticket to produce a handsome stallion named Woodgate Winchester. Bred to Royal Cloud JJ, a regal Morgan mare of New England lines resulted in Woodgate Winsome. Winsome was on permanent lease to us from our daughter as a broodmare; a pasture injury kept her from the show ring as an outstanding western pleasure horse. He smooth gaits, her correct conformation and her beauty were passed on to her babies. Her courage was never more evident when she battled intractable colic while delivering her last foal.
